"Seasoned All-Star" Game at the Mini Bank

By Daniel Bowman

The “Mini Bank” brought out some old timers to play in a “Seasoned All-Star” Game. The stadium was filled with some older generation men that wanted one more chance at bringing back some childhood memories. It was great seeing former little league teammates and former friends catching up. It was also nice seeing their families at the game. These former legends put on a show for the crowd. There were some great moments in the game. Todd “Whitey” Lawrence” hitting an inside the park homerun as the leftfielder fell and could not get up. Paul Kolody also had a special moment picking up his 10,000-career hit in his wiffle ball career. (Can’t tell you how many games we played as kids together 40 years ago). There was also spectacular play by Steve Renn in left field. A wiffle ball was blasted into left field and Steve took off after it. A juggling effort led to Steve making a great catch to shut down the other team’s threat of scoring some runs. Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder also showed there was a reason he led the Herndon area in homeruns back in the day. Jimmy blasted a homerun showing he still has the power. Both teams came out winner getting to play the game they loved as kids one more time. I am sure there were aches and pains, but everyone showed heart and that competitive fire. Hoping this becomes an annual event and some more old-timers can make the trip to the field.
